Astell & Kern A&norma SR25 Hi-Res Portable Music Player

Astell & Kern A&norma SR25 Hi-Res Portable Music Player

The SR25 is the second model in the Astell&Kern A&norma standard line.Beginning with the AK70, Astell&Kern’s goal was to bring high resolution audio and the Astell&Kern sound to more music lovers.
This goal continued with the successor to the AK70, the A&norma SR15, and now evolves further as the SR25, a premium product that fully embraces Astell&Kern’s philosophy and technology, now available to the masses. The SR25 is the latest answer to our never-ending question of “How do we get closer to the original sound the artist intended?”

Performance Mode for Ultra High Resolution Sound
The SR25 supports native DSD256 and 32bit/384kHz audio for the first time in an Astell&Kern standard product and boasts performance that cannot be compared with other competitors’ products.

The SR25, which is smaller than other players, has been developed to achieve stable, ultra-high resolution sound. We have developed a new Performance Mode with the SR25 that automatically optimizes and sets the memory mode in the system according to the data size of the source being played.

As the resolution of the sound source increases, it is necessary to process a large amount of data rapidly. If this part is not optimized, sound breakup may occur. To prevent this, the SR25 uses the new Performance Mode to adjust and optimize the system in order to produce near perfect sound quality when playing back high resolution audio.

Perfect Circuit Design for the Highest Sound Quality
Proper playback of DSD256 and 32bit/384kHz digital audio requires a high-performance CPU and fast memory speed, along with an audio path suitable for high-speed signal processing.

Optimizing the length of the audio path is a very important part, as failing to properly do so can create a time delay between the signals resulting in sound abnormalities.

With the SR25, the Astell&Kern team developed a completely different PCB design from the existing SR15 to process the high speed signals where required, resulting in audio path lengths that are the same, allowing for super-high resolution sound without any delay.
Furthermore, newly designed audio patterns and power circuits for distortion-free signal transmission and noise rejection are applied to each channel.

The result is an Ultra Low Noise Filter that allows you experience Astell&Kern’s flawless sound, with Zero Noise, on the SR25.

Experience ultra-high resolution with the SR25’s Performance Mode, which reproduces even the smallest, minute details of the original recording the artist was looking for, without compromise.

Cowon Plenue D2 Hi-Res Portable Music Player

Cowon Plenue D2 Hi-Res Portable Music Player

An award-winner made better
As a multi-award-winner, the original Cowon Plenue D impressed with its capable Hi-Res sound, long battery life, compact proportions and great value. All that stays the same with the D2, but now there’s more. Built-in storage has doubled from 32 to 64GB. Native DSD128 files are supported and there are impressive Cirrus Logic twin DACs at hand. A balanced output also offers a wider choice of headphone options.

Next generation High Resolution
Hi-Res sound is already widely regarded as a huge step-up in quality above MP3 and CD. Featuring the latest Cirrus Logic CS43131 DACs, that High Resolution sound just keeps getting better. The new chipset not only enhances battery life but also gets the very best from High Resolution, including native support for DSD files.

Native DSD support
Taking a step up from the original model, the Plenue D2 features native DSD support (up to DSD128). Originally designed for SACD players, DSD (Direct Stream Digital) encoded music files offer stunning levels of detail and resolution. Thanks to powerful new processing, you get effortless streaming of DSD files with the huge dynamic range, ‘inky’ quiet backdrop and all the subtle detail you’d expect from the format.

Handles a wide range of Hi-Res and standard formats
As well as DSD files, the Plenue D2 is also compatible with a wide range of other files types, too. These include FLAC/WAV/AIFF/ALAC/APE/MP3/WMA and OGG.

Now with balanced output option
Featuring a 4-pole headphone socket (2.5mm), the Plenue D2 is ideal for use with balanced headphones. Using a balanced signal between the source and headphones reduces noise and interference and is especially handy on the move. A standard 3.5mm output is also fitted, for regular headphones and AUX hi-fi links.

Enhanced storage
As standard, the Plenue D2 now has 64GB of built-in storage – enough for a decent music library. Thanks to the MicroSD card slot, though, this can be expanded by up to a further 128GB, giving a total of 192GB – enough for a serious music collection.

Built-in rechargeable battery giving up to 45 hours playback
Recharge the player in around 3.5 hours and you’ll have an impressive battery life of up to 45 hours (MP3). Even with the highest quality Hi-Res files the battery life is around 30 hours – twice as good as many rivals and comparable smartphones.

Compact and stylish
Measuring just 79mm by 53mm, the Plenue D2 easily fits the palm of your hand. The aluminium case is both strong and light – as well as giving the player a high quality feel. An easy-to-use touch screen makes navigation easy and comes as second nature after using a smartphone. Physical buttons fall easily to hand for major functions, such as volume and power.

Compatible Formats: DSD(DSF/DSDIFF)/FLAC/ALAC/WAV/AIFF/MQA/OggVorbis/MP3

Incorporating twin unit ESS Technology DAC “ES9018K2M” and AMP “SABRE 9601K” each allows for extreme high resolution audio and component audio design philosophy while still maintaining a realistic power envelop for a portable device.

Complete separation between the audio circuit board (DAC & AMP) and CPU board to allow for internally separated construction. Within the DAC & AMP board, the audio circuitry and switching power are distanced as far as physically possible to limit the effects of noise. The DAC & AMP have their own capacitors to provide a clean audio signal with its closed loop design. Attention was made to circuit design to keep digital noise from getting in between you and your music.
