Seven Drivers. One Cohesive Sound.
The MOONDROP METEOR takes a distinctly ambitious approach to IEM design, combining one dynamic driver, two balanced armatures and four planar drivers in a sophisticated three-way frequency crossover architecture.
The result is a total of seven drivers per earpiece, with each driver technology assigned to the frequencies where it can perform at its best.
METEOR’s innovative acoustic architecture is designed to integrate these different driver technologies into a coherent full-range presentation while maintaining excellent phase consistency and low distortion.
13mm Oversized Bass Dynamic Driver
At the foundation of METEOR’s sound is an unusually large 13mm dynamic driver dedicated to bass reproduction.
The oversized driver is positioned within MOONDROP’s specially developed multi-driver acoustic structure, allowing it to deliver powerful and controlled low-frequency reproduction while leaving the balanced armatures and planar drivers to concentrate on the midrange and treble.
This approach gives METEOR the physical authority and dynamic fullness associated with a large dynamic driver while maintaining the technical capabilities of its multi-driver architecture.
Four Miniature Planar Treble Drivers
METEOR incorporates four miniature planar drivers for high-frequency reproduction.
MOONDROP designed these compact planar drivers to provide lower distortion, extended frequency response and increased resolution.
The use of four dedicated planar drivers allows METEOR to reproduce fine high-frequency information with speed and precision, contributing to its published frequency response extending to 35kHz.
Customized Dual Balanced Armatures
The midrange is handled by two customized composite balanced armature drivers.
These dedicated midrange drivers are designed to deliver exceptional sound quality and dynamic fullness while integrating smoothly with the large bass dynamic driver and planar treble array.
MOONDROP’s three-way crossover architecture manages the interaction between the driver groups to create a cohesive full-band presentation.
XTM Complex Frequency-Crossover Architecture
The seven drivers in METEOR are integrated using MOONDROP’s XTM complex technology frequency-crossover architecture.
Rather than simply combining multiple drivers, MOONDROP developed a carefully engineered acoustic structure to control how each driver contributes to the final sound.
The system incorporates a passive acoustic notch filter and is designed to maintain highly consistent phase behavior throughout the audible frequency range.
Highly Consistent Full-Band Phase
One of the key goals of METEOR’s acoustic design is highly consistent full-band phase.
Maintaining phase consistency between multiple drivers is particularly important in a complex tribrid design. MOONDROP’s acoustic and crossover architecture is designed to ensure that the individual drivers work together as a unified system rather than sounding like separate components.
Precision 3D-Printed Acoustic Structure
MOONDROP has worked in-depth with leading 3D-printing supplier HeyGears to develop METEOR’s acoustic structure.
The precisely manufactured internal geometry allows the complex seven-driver system, crossover components and acoustic channels to be positioned with a high degree of accuracy and consistency.
Distinctive Meteorite-Inspired Design
The METEOR name and aesthetic draw inspiration from meteorites and their distinctive extraterrestrial mineral structures.
The housing design reflects the textures and patterns associated with meteorites, giving METEOR a distinctive appearance that complements its highly technical internal architecture.
Detachable Cable with Interchangeable Plugs
METEOR uses a 0.78mm 2-pin detachable cable and comes supplied with interchangeable 3.5mm single-ended and 4.4mm balanced plugs.
This allows the same cable to be used with conventional headphone outputs as well as balanced 4.4mm connections found on many modern digital audio players and headphone amplifiers.
