A Sophisticated Five-Driver Hybrid Design

The MOONDROP Variations combines three different driver technologies in a carefully engineered 1DD + 2BA + 2EST hybrid configuration.

Each earpiece incorporates a 10mm dynamic driver for the low frequencies, a pair of deeply customized balanced armature drivers for the midrange, and two high-power electrostatic drivers for high-frequency reproduction.

MOONDROP combines these drivers with a precisely engineered physical filtering structure and frequency division circuitry to create a cohesive, harmonious presentation across the full frequency range.

10mm Liquid Crystal Diaphragm Dynamic Driver

The low-frequency foundation of Variations comes from a 10mm liquid crystal diaphragm composite copper inner-cavity dynamic driver.

The dedicated dynamic driver provides the physical excursion and low-frequency authority associated with a dynamic-driver design while integrating with the BA and electrostatic drivers to create a full-range presentation.

Deeply Customized Midrange Balanced Armatures

Variations uses Softears-D-Mid-B deeply customized composite balanced armature drivers for the midrange.

The dedicated midrange drivers are integrated into MOONDROP’s carefully designed acoustic system to reproduce vocals, instruments and other critical midrange information with precision and natural timbre.

High-Power Electrostatic Treble Drivers

For high-frequency reproduction, Variations incorporates Sonion high-power double electrostatic drivers.

Electrostatic drivers are capable of extremely fast response and fine resolution, making them particularly well suited to reproducing delicate high-frequency information and subtle musical detail.

The combination of the electrostatic drivers with the dedicated midrange BAs and dynamic bass driver gives Variations an extended published frequency response of 9Hz–40kHz.

Precision 3D-Printed Acoustic Structure

One of the key elements of Variations’ acoustic design is its precisely manufactured internal structure.

MOONDROP uses 3D-printed acoustic channels combined with damping materials and carefully engineered filtering circuits to control the individual driver outputs and optimize frequency response and phase characteristics.

The acoustic structure incorporates low-pass, high-pass and equalization circuitry to help integrate the different driver types into a coherent full-range system.

Tuned to MOONDROP’s VDSF Target

The Variations is tuned according to MOONDROP’s VDSF Target, a tuning philosophy developed to achieve a natural and accurate presentation.

According to MOONDROP, the tuning is intended to provide a realistic longitudinal soundstage while preserving natural timbre and accurate musical reproduction.

Comfortable Stainless Steel and Resin Housing

The Variations cavity combines stainless steel and medical-grade resin 3D printing.

The exterior uses a skin-friendly frosted texture designed not only to provide a refined appearance but also to help the IEM fit comfortably within the ear canal during extended listening sessions.

Premium PCC Cable with Interchangeable Plugs

Variations comes supplied with a PCC coaxial single-crystal copper replaceable-plug cable.

The interchangeable plug system includes 2.5mm, 3.5mm and 4.4mm plugs, allowing the IEM to be used with a wide range of portable digital audio players, DAC/amps and headphone amplifiers.

This modular approach also eliminates the need to purchase separate cables simply to accommodate different source connections.
